Maldives karate team wins 9 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 1 bronze medal at Gima-ha South Asian Karate & 41st Kumite Championship 2017. The event was held on 4^th March 2017 at Srilanka.

This is the very first time a Maldivian team participated at International Karate Championship. Maldives won second place in the competition by competing against India and Srilanka. Srilanka won first place whereas India won third place. In this competition Maldives represented as Shotokan Karate Association.

Ali Faarish, Ahmed Mahdee, Ahmed Fazil, Ibrahim Zuhair, Shahis Ahmed Waheed, Hussain Zahir, Mohamed Zidan and Ashfaq Usmaan achieved gold medals in this event, and from female participants Aishath Thaanee achieved gold medal.
